WOMEN'S PACHIRA HEMP/RECYCLED BOOT by Jade Planet
The Pachira is the first offering of an environmental footwear line from Jade Planet, a new company founded by Julie Lewis, the founder of Deja Shoe and Deep E Co, two legendary companies (not affiliated with Vigilante Jade) that pioneered concepts of environmentally and socially responsible footwear. Features include a
hemp blend upper and laces (50% hemp, 50% cotton), eyelets
made of 80% postconsumer recycled materials, a sole made
of 40% postconsumer recycled material, 100% recycled foam
(from seat cushion manufacturing) for the removable insole
padding and tongue, synthetic leather produced with
with water-based processing and containing 20%
postconsumer recycled content from soda pop bottles, and
a lasting board made from 100% recycled materials. The
shoe box is printed with soy-based inks and is reversible
for use as a gift box. Some customers report that
these boots run a little small.
Hemp is a tough fabric made of natural fibers that's lightweight, long-wearing,
easy to clean and breathable. Hemp is a renewable resource that is good for the
environment. Its strong roots help control erosion, and it needs very little water
to grow. When cultivating the fibers, practically no chemicals are needed since the
material naturally resists pests. And the natural look of hemp is so great that no
bleaching is required.
